Points to consider when you Relocate to Sydney

Whether you are relocating to Sydney or moving from Sydney to another city or country, there are many important factors to consider. It is important to find a dedicated Sydney relocation provider who has a local presence and a global footprint to meet your needs.

Many have chosen to relocate to Sydney thanks to comparatively low rents, beautiful weather and an overall better quality of life. Sydney is the Australian commercial centre from which you’ll find yourself settling into a world-class city where breathtaking natural beauty and a cosmopolitan spirit combine to afford residents a high quality of life.

There’s so much to be said for the full spectrum of lifestyle benefits available to expatriates moving to Sydney: picturesque residential suburbs, good public transport systems and equally efficient healthcare facilities. Not to mention, the high standard of education, both at school and tertiary level, makes Sydney an attractive prospect for even those with children.

Besides the pleasures associated with a wonderfully mild climate and great outdoor pursuits, Sydney also boasts a thriving arts and culture scene made up of fine galleries and museums, theatre productions, and a magnificent selection of restaurants and lively café culture.

Not to mention, there are festivals year-round for almost every occasion.

Though, Sydney is not just a city content to rely only on its scenic charms or hedonistic indulgences, it is also a major financial hub, employing one third of Australia’s financial sector workforce. The Australian Stock Exchange and Reserve Bank are based in Sydney, as are other big businesses in property, retail, health and information technology. Thus, it comes as little surprise that the number of kiwis relocating from New Zealand to Sydney for work purposes continues to increase.

Relocating to Sydney

So you’re thinking about moving to the beautiful city of Sydney down under! Beautiful sandy beaches, turquoise ocean shores and a very laid back lifestyle, it is definitely the perfect choice for anyone who loves a bit of sun and exotic wildlife!  However, like moving anywhere in the world there are few things to consider in order to make sure it’s the perfect place for you. Allow me to go through with you a few of these things which you need to think about.

Which part of Sydney do you want to move to?
Sydney is a very large place, in fact it’s about 700 square miles and houses nearly 5 million people! So of course not all of Sydney is going to be flashy apartments and kangaroos in your garden. North Sydney and East Sydney is predominantly made up of wealthier types, golf clubs, private schools and very large houses. Inner West Sydney on the other hand, is an a lot more affordable area to live in and is filled with lively arty types. The majority of British and New Zealand citizens usually migrate to South Sydney (Sutherland Shire) as the housing prices are quite low and the beaches are only a short walk away. There are also quite a lot of national parks in and around the area.

Natural Beauty
As I touched upon earlier, Australia is famous for its exotic wildlife. Cute little kangaroos jumping around and the odd cuddly koala bear sat in a tree. Of course you also have to remember about those eight legged fiends that have a poisonous bite – yes I’m talking about spiders! Not your regular house spiders but big furry black things with fangs! You don’t want to go slipping on a shoe and find that a funnel spider is sat waiting to surprise you. There are also a large number of snakes which can be found around all of Australia. Just make sure you’re always aware and anything that looks venomous, probably is so don’t go thinking you’re the next Bear Grylls or Steve Irwin because you might just bite off more than you can chew.

The Cost of Living
Of course whilst living in Sydney you will need to earn a living and to do so you will ultimately need a bank account. To open a bank account is Sydney requires 100 points. Each form of identification has a point value so you have to make sure you have at least 100 points before even considering getting on the plane really. A passport (which is essential to get to Sydney anyway) scores you an instant 70 points, something like a drivers license scores you another 25. So it is quite easy to get to 100 but it’s best to make sure before moving to Sydney.

To give you a clear indication on the cost of living in Sydney I’ll give you a brief example – rent is anywhere from $100 to $500 a week, a cinema ticket is around $13.00 and a 5 minute ride in a taxi can cost you around $5.00 to even $10.00. Of course the cost of living varies and it’s going to cost you a lot more to live in built up urban areas as opposed to regional parts of Sydney.

Though Sydney may at times sound a little on the expensive side, you have to remember that living in countries like the U.K you’ll end up paying anywhere between £20 – £100 just for a decent day out, whereas Sydney is surrounded by luscious beaches and wildlife areas which are all absolutely free! There is also a fairly relaxed atmosphere no matter what time of day it is and there is always something to do!  So I know where I would prefer to live.
